The Misfits in San Antonio's SouthSide "Mission County Park" Pinches Chingasos!

In a crowded place in San Antonio's Southside, Mission County Park hosted The Misfits on November 7, 2013. It was a full house, a crazy ghoul show, horror punk came home to the Alamo City. I was at the front when the barricade came down, which was really flimsy. The people who brought the show together totally forgot about the safety of people. As the barricade went down, many people went forward into the barricade. I went back to escape the CHAOS as I went from one chaos scene to another. In order to cut through the crowds, I had to go through the Mosh-Pit, or was know them as circle pits. It takes a lot to piss me off and when you see me in action at a show, I might become a different person. The situation I am talking about is the Mosh-Pit itself, our rite of passage as PUNK RAWKERS. There was on ASSHOLE who was throwing everybody into the hard concrete floor, as if on purpose. I saw young people and women being taken advantage by this one cowardly dude. He was not a man, but a simple coward who picked on the weak. The Mosh-Pit is all about Survival of the Fittest. I am not small, but I am no longer in my prime. This dude smashes into me, pushes me around, I push back, he does not like my body language. He slams harder, he starts punching at my face. I defend myself, and hang in there. To avoid a fight in the Mosh-Pit, I used my tactics that I've learned from years. I wanted to draw him out of the Mosh-Pit. He knew I was not going down, and I had humiliated him as I knocked him down like a BITCH in the pit. I then exited the Mosh-Pit, and he followed me. I wanted him to follow me to the open. He did follow me, as we fought throughout the crowd exchanging punches. Still, I was in self-defense mode. This is the same ASSHOLE I've been seeing at the D.R.I. show doing the same thing to people. I waited it out, went back to see if he was still around. He had taken off his blue hoody, and now he was shirtless. He had gone to buy a beer or a drink, and that's when I confronted him of being a PUSSY and an ASSHOLE. He didn't want to fight me anymore cause there was about 6 police officers or security guards watching the whole thing now. They did not arrest me but they were hawking me, and from what I heard, they did not allow him to buy alcohol. My friends were trying to break it up, or calm me down, but I had no time to explain the story of what happened in the Mosh-Pit. Maybe one day when they read this, they will understand, and reason with me that I will not tolerate ASSHOLES who punch people in the face and take advantage of women by pushing them down into the concrete. I said, "Enough is Enough!" and refused to be his punching bag in the Mosh-Pit. I want to apologize if I offended people or groups since I was wearing my Texas Oi! t-shirt. I asked everybody to stay back, that I didn't want them to get involved to show we're not a gang. I wanted it to be One on One, that way not to give anybody a bad name. We still kicked it, hanged around, had some good times, but sometimes when things happen like this at a show like The Misfits, it surprises me that there's always ASSHOLES out there. I did have a small scratch over my eyebrow, and a big headache the next day from the head butts.

Punk Rawk History at Libraries in San Anto

If anybody remembers the movie American History X by Tony Kaye, it is a constant reminder during the Obama administration that racism does exist, especially when an African-American is President of the United States of America. American History X is about a story of Skinhead gangs, the D.O.C., the White Power Movement in the Scene, especially in Venice, California. I remember when the Venice influence came to San Anto, people talking like surfers, everybody wanted a Dogtown skateboard, and wanted to mimic the Skinhead culture in California & New York City. When I bought my book Making A Scene at Hogwild Records back in 1990, I didn't expect for San Anto to mimic the exact hardcore culture as in the Big Apple. San Anto was a variety of different cultures in the Scene, blending in with Metalheads, Skateboarders, Skinheads, Punk Rawkers, & New Wavers. San Anto was more like the movie Suburbia, the Punk Parade Scene in the movie is what I remember, a group walking down Southcross going to McCreless Mall in a mob fashion. McCreless Mall had Concrete Surf for us to hang out. It was the dawn of gangs forming is what I remember. American History X to me is like the Scene in San Anto when the American Skinheads & Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice formed Anti-Racist Action to fight against White Power Skinheads altogether in the San Antonio area. The ending to American History X was really sad because his little brother who he tried to save from being a racist died from a black teenager who shot him at his High School. Dereck Vinyard cried out loud as if it should have been him who should have died instead. In my opinion, the perfect ending to this movie should have been when they were taking down the Nazi flag in their room. People can still change today, all it takes is opening up their eyes.  There are parts to this movie like the Concrete Stomp and being raped in prison by his own White Power friends that are being left out, but that's why the movie was great, especially singing racist songs and using the N word like it's nothing. A movie this great makes you wonder if Edward Norton did not get the part to become part of the Avengers as the Incredible Hulk.

In this other film A Clockwork Orange by Stanley Kubrick, Alex is a reformed Hooligan, finds himself in trouble from the beginning, having his own gang as he called them droogs, and he made it clear he was the Droogan leader. The Korova Milk Bar scene in which they hang out drinking milk plus ready for a night of Ultra-Violence is what today's Punk Rawkers & Skinheads do when they go to local bars & venues drinking some Lonestars before the night of Chaos & Destruction. When Alex's droogs turned against him, Alex found himself in prison learning about the good book and learning what it is to be good after he murdered a woman, knowing right from wrong. Just like some of the Skinheads I knew back in the day in San Anto, some found Jesus while in prison, but not reformed from their Ultra-Violent behavior.  There was a scene in the movie where Alex and his droogs fight against Billy and his droogs, fighting for territory or just simply Ultra-Violence in their system. When Alex volunteers for a special program by the government to reform Alex's ultra-violent behavior, he finally gets a chance to become part of society. Society then turned on poor Alex in which he tried to commit suicide. Alex's love for Ludwig Van Beethoven's song made him Ultra-Violent & Sick when he heard the song, but after attempting suicide, the government was blamed for Alex's failure. In the End, Alex was a reformed citizen to back to his old Ultra-Violent self again with Ludwig Van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. We all have a saying in the hood, you can take the Punk Rawker/Skinhead out of the hood, but you can't take the hood out of the Skinhead/Punk Rawker. This movie also has rape scenes, threesome sex, torturing people, gang fights, and lots of Ultra-Violence.

These movies and many more can be checked out at your local library like the Mission Library in the SouthEast Side of San Anto. Feel free to donate your old punk rawk & skinhead movies to your local librarian so that we may enjoy these movies for free. I would love to see Suburbia as part of the collection as well. I hear that Hogwild Records has this movie for $19 at their record store. Both these movies American History X & A Clockwork Orange were checked out at my local libraries. Feel free to check them out at your local library, just put a hold on them and they'll deliver it to your library in your area. Making A Scene!

Making A Scene is not about booking a venue, a night club, or paying a chit load of money to somebody who is going to rip you off in the profits, it's about having a great time with friends & family, especially when they graduate High School, and they are the ones performing for us.  In the heart of the Westside of San Anto, like the DMZ days, Punk Rock came to El Mero Hueso de San Anto, with heart & soul for Los Punk Rawkers de San Anto. If Society "rejects" us for being to Punk Rock, or too many rules to follow to produce a punk rawk show, then there will always be other doors that will open for us. Some 24 years ago, I went to a Punk Rock backyard party that was with Innocent Victims, Hydrolic Sno-Men, and Scrotum Nosedive off of S. Hackberry & Fair Ave. in the Southeast side of San Anto. It was phucken amazing back then, the life in music, the attitude, the puro pinche Oi! in your face. Today, it is coming back, in the backyards, in the streets, wherever it may be, punk rawk is here to stay. Oi!

Marching with Skinheads & Punkrockers

I participated in the 26th Annual  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. March on January 21, 2013, in San Anto. I am here at Pittman-Sullivan Park with my Texas Oi! t-shirt. I can say that back in the day, the march has changed. The skinheads and punkrockers back in 1990 were not welcomed in the march cause they verbally attacked them for looking like White Power skinheads. I'd like to point out that my buddies who went to Brackenridge High School paved the way for us punkrockers/skinheads to stand up against racial prejudice. The stories I heard from Juan, Hela, and Erik about them not being welcomed is crazy, and they were my friends in the American Skinheads group from Brackenridge High School. I have been to several of the marches with my family but this year I went alone to accomplish this mission of telling the story of how punk rockers and skinheads once marched together at the Dr. King March. If we are to coexist as people, we must not have prejudice towards people due to the color of their skin. The times have changed, and President Obama is supporting Gay rights now. As you can see, the rainbow flag at the march was very visible. The march turned out to be a democratic agenda promoting President Obama's inauguration. Some of us punkrockers & skinheads may be Democratic or Republican, but because the march turned out to be supportive of the efforts of President Obama, many people did not want to attend?  I have been to many marches, mostly civil & human rights marches for indigenous rights. I have chanted songs like "Red, Brown, Black & White...Let the People all Unite!" Has the work of the S.H.A.R.P.s and Anti-Racist Action been washed ashore or did their work move up North to Austin, Texas. In San Anto, it has not been seen for years.

Creating a Punk Rock jacket

The Art form of creating your own punk rock jacket, leatherette, battle armor, or expressive outer appearance of yourself in Making A Scene in San Anto has been lost. Today, most of the chit is already made for you at Hot Topic or other novelty stores in town. What happened to the good old days when you bought your leather jacket at a Western store and punked it out Suicidal Psycho Punk style? With the invention of the Internet, you can now buy studs & spikes online. The studs & spikes you carefully placed around your leather or denim jacket took time and energy; however, most belts are already made that way. The bleaching effort of denim jackets can relate to some hippie techniques with bleach bombs and rubber bands. Then drawing in the negative areas to sport your favorite logo, band name, or supportive scene group. Whatever the name of your group represents you in the scene so making your own jacket with colors is really important. We all want to be individuals, not sheep like everybody else with the same Hot Topic gear. In these crazy times, people have added wolf tails as part of a pack or click. I stay or prefer the old fashioned way of just keeping it simple. In this photo, my leather jacket has been gutted, the liner has been taken out, the sleeves have been removed, and Gesso paint has been added on the back for a design to be added soon.

If you decide to make your own punk rock jacket, be an original, do some online research, get your studs & spikes ready, get your design ready, but most importantly, take your time with the jacket cause the final product will represent you as an individual or part of the group in Making A Scene in San Anto. I am at the stage of collecting enough spikes & studs to complete my jacket, but my design is still being worked on by me. This is just a work in progress picture in which gesso has already been applied, then some acrylic paint will come next.  Making A Scene!
